Drinking a little less

This post is all about the idea of drinking a little less, which is obviously the best hangover cure, albeit in a rather pedantic manner.

DrinkAware

One thing which really helps me is an app from Drinkaware which helps me to track my alcohol consumption. I’ve tried tracking a number of things from food to water to exercise, and I found that some work for me and some don’t. One thing that has really worked for me though is tracking alcohol.

I started using the Drinkaware app in February 2019 and now I’ve been tracking for around six months. I’ve been really diligent and I’ve tracked both hydrating days and no drinking days as best I could. They were perhaps a few drinks which I missed out from particularly fun parties, but equally I’ve put on an extra drink or two where I wasn’t sure so I think it all balances out.

Knowing how much you’ve drunk helps you to set goals. For example, last month I decided to try to keep my drinking within the intermediate range. During the month there were a couple of weeks which entered the high range, but knowing that I’d had a particularly good week helped me to keep the last week on track and end up with an overall intermediate score.

It’s also help me to realise just how many calories I’m consuming in alcohol. For example, in the past month I have consumed over 11,000 cal in alcohol. That’s almost 4 days worth of food in a month. And we all know that when we drink we are more tempted to have that late night snack or fat laden breakfast, so it’s easy to see how drinking makes you fat.

Overall, I have found the Drinkaware app very useful and I would recommend it if you’d like to cut down a little. You can download the app here.
